Hydrogeochemistry Laboratory Institute of Speleology "Emil Racoviță"
Study of geochemical processes occurring in karstifiable and related areas
Study of geochemical processes occurring in karstifiable and related areas, covering both fundamental and applied research.
The laboratory meets the requirements of SR EN ISO/CEI 17025:2018 and is competent to perform tests on: groundwater, mineral waters and surface waters.
Certificat Nr. LI 1159Areas of activity
- Geochemical study of the formation, development and functioning of karst hydrostructures
- Modelling of geochemical processes on rigorous thermodynamic and chemical kinetics bases, creation and completion of thermodynamic databases required for modelling
- Study of transfer mechanisms of hazardous and priority hazardous chemical elements and substances in karstifiable media
- Characterisation of the chemical composition of groundwater in karst and adjacent areas — regional hydrogeochemistry studies
- Determination of the main groundwater drainage directions through geochemical modelling and tracer tests
- Study of chemical equilibrium in multicomponent aqueous systems, applied to the assessment of transport parameters
- Chemical-analytical work on natural matrices (groundwater and surface water, rocks, soil, sediments, biological material) under RENAR accreditation conditions
- Development of analytical methods and procedures aimed at minimising measurement uncertainty and improving analytical performance
Research infrastructure
The laboratory obtains high-quality experimental data thanks to its modern analytical facilities and a specialised sample preparation sector for the analysis of low and ultra-low (trace) concentrations.
