About the journal
Theoretical and Applied Karstology (TAK) is an international annual scientific journal dedicated to the study of karst and speleology. It is published by the Institute of Speleology "Emil Racoviță" of the Romanian Academy.
Articles may be written in English or French, and abstracts are bilingual.
The first issue appeared in 1983/1984, as a result of the first "Theoretical and Applied Karstology" symposium, held in Bucharest in April 1983. The early issues were published directly by the Institute of Speleology "Emil Racoviță". From 1992, annual publication was carried out through the Publishing House of the Romanian Academy.
TAK was regarded as an important publication in the field of karstology and speleology, featuring contributions from Romanian and international researchers, selected largely from the annual symposia devoted to the same field. A notable figure was Prof. Dr. Ioan Povară, who held an editorial and organisational role during the period 1984–1996.
Published by the Institute of Speleology "Emil Racoviță" of the Romanian Academy.
