Library of the Institute of Speleology "Emil Racoviță"

The library was founded in 1965, initially formed from donations by the institute's researchers. Currently, over 95% of the publication holdings are acquired through international exchange.

The existing collections comprise over 6,000 book titles and 850 titles of journals and periodicals in the fields of speleology, biology, geography, geology and palaeontology, reflecting the specialised character of the library.

The library maintains exchanges with over 150 institutes, museums and societies in 25 countries, with particularly active exchanges with institutes from Germany, Italy, France, the USA and Spain.

An important place is occupied by exchanges with institutions within the country — the library holds near-complete collections of the Natural History Museum "Grigore Antipa", and of the institutes of biology, geology, geography and the University of Bucharest.
